Mike Gange teaches media studies and journalism courses at Fredericton High School.
He began working in radio at age 15, as a teen on a radio station for military personnel and their families. He paid his undergrad tuition at UNB by working in radio and print. Later he worked in radio, television and print media in small, medium and large markets in Canada.
He has a Masters degree in Education and a Masters degree in Journalism.
He has written more than 200 book reviews for local media and for on-line journalism efforts. Most of his reviews are of books that deal with the mass media — advertising, radio, television, comics, magazines, movies, or about business and social implications, or about sports. Generally speaking, these book reviews are intended for teachers of media studies, media literacy or media education.
Mike regulary calls play-by-play of hockey and basketball games for radio, television and Internet. His thesis for the Journalism degree is a groundbreaking look at how sports journalists function in the press boxes at sporting events.
Mike has been known as “Mr Media” since 1992. He owns the name in Canada. The name “Mr Media” was chosen not out of arrogance or pretentiousness, but rather out of playfulness and exhuberance for the many good things to be explored and understood in all mass media. Fairness and ethics are always a hallmark.
The material here is dedicated to media educators, both veterans and rookies, who might be experienced in the field or neophytes in the field. You will find suggestions for books, conferences and ideas about professional development, music, advertising, and some classroom ideas.
